HellXhere - HellXhere

Label : Eigen beheer | Archive under heavy / power metal

Release type: Full-length CD

Nima : HellXHere (whether it's pronounced as "Hell Here” or "Hell Is Here” I leave for what it is) is a duo from France and have recently released this self-titled debut album. The gentlemen play sturdy rock and heavy metal, with references to thrash a la (later) Metallica. The thrashy parts reveal themselves mostly in the faster riffs and also in the way Fred Hamm sings. At some point he also reminds me of Ville Laihiala (Sentenced, Poisonblack) and Thorsten Kohlrausch (Dark at Dawn). The band's strongest qualities are especially in their guitars. The gentlemen deliver solid riffs and also the many solos are arranged and performed well. Especially in the faster parts the music is rather catchy. Unfortunately the songs don't have the power it takes to linger on even for a bit and pass you by easily. Also the vocals are a bit too monotonous, and despite the fact that Hamm sound rather strong in some parts, he doesn't fully convince. Despite the gentlemen's musical qualities, the strong ideas and great production (Black Sabbath, Peter Gabriel a.o.) this debut doesn't rise above the average.
